We said farewell to the poppies on the evening of 11 November 2018. The display had enhanced lighting for the evening, a large screen was set up by the poppies which showed images of WW1 and WW2 with appropriate music, and a display of moving poppies was projected onto the side wall of the church.

The service started in the church and then moved outside to be at the poppies. The service was a shortened version of the original Dedication Service on 7 October but with the readings made by major contributors to the organisation and planning of the poppy display from the Northney Textiles Craft Group. The lights were turned off, a fire beacon was lit in their place and the Last Post was sounded.

Then, the playing of a harmonium which had actually seen active service in the trenches in WW1 accompanied the singing of the national anthem.

It was a very moving service.
